As we wait for the 1.5 release of Logstash which will include the Kafka plugin by default I've put some work into the logstash-kafka plugin which makes it much easier to install and also enables logging on from the kafka library when you use --debug or --verbose toggles with logstash. The jruby-kafka library underneath now includes all jars needed to run jruby-kafka so no more manual Kafka install! Yay! Finally, I have packaged up logstash-kafka into a gem and distributed it via rubygems to make for really easy installation. So yay again!
